Keep Calm And Watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

The ever-green original series of the TV show F.R.I.E.N.D.S. has a quite a lot of fan-following around the world. The die-hard fans—like me—never get tired of watching the show and snorting and chuckling every time they watch it. The obsessed ones, I-know-it-so-well fans—again, like me—utilize the watching experience in their own lives to learn from a lot of worldly stuff shown in the series and/or bring humor to their Indian lives. (I do both.) If you do all the things mentioned in the listicle below, you have no choice but to accept that you are the latter kind of fan.

1. I’M TOTALLY CHANDLER! SARCASM IS LIKE MY THING!

1

If you think you share a trait with every one of the six characters and associate your behavior to the fictional characters created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, you are already a loony fan of the antique series. Be it Chandler’s sense of humor, Monica’s OCD, Phoebe’s weirdness, Rachel’s shopping frenzy, Ross’ crazy love or Joey’s bachelorhood, you have labelled yourself with some or the other attribute of one or more character and live by it more proudly than ever before.

2. YOU’RE MY LOBSTER.

2

Yeah, you won’t get the reference if you are not the kind of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. buff I’m talking about. But, if you are, even the image of Phoebe doing that thing with her hands will come to your mind. Like all other such fans, allusions to the series are very well obvious to you in your daily life. You cannot but make a comment or crack a joke with a reference to the epic series when the opportunity is right there in your face. Then, you look around to find that one person you can share the amusement with.

3. “YOUR MONEY’S MINE, GREEN.” “YOUR FLY’S OPEN, GELLER.”

3

To know whose and what the next line is you have got to have watched the entire series at least ten times. Just being able to deliver those lines on cue the way the actors delivered it feels so great, doesn’t it?

4. THE ONE WITH THE…

4

You know every episode’s plot by its name. “Tell me the name and I’ll tell you what happens in that episode,” is what you tell the low-grade fans with a flaunting tone. And you do remember each episode of each season; no false claims there.

5. REMEMBER THAT SCENE WHEN…

5

And you start giggling away at the mere memory of the scene you and your friend are referring to. Just replaying it in your head does it for you. Who needs to watch anything when you got it all in your head? Pff!

6. KNOWING ALL ABOUT THE ACTORS

6

You are well acquainted with the six actors’ lives behind the screen and are up to date with their latest Hollywood newscast. You do not do it to show off; you just know about all these people because they have had a great role to play in the hours that you spent laughing while watching them on screen or in your head.

7. WHY DON’T I KNOW THIS?!

7

If, unfortunately, you missed a minute detail in the series or did not know something about the production, you freak out. You freak out and refuse to calm down until you have looked up everything you need to. Even if you cannot make sense of a certain reference or name or term, obsession takes over and nothing else matters right then.

8. EVERYTHING I KNOW IN LIFE, I LEARNT FROM F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

8

How blissfully you admit that half of what you are today is because you watched the lovable series. Every character and each episode has left you with a new meaning of friends, a new meaning to life. If not that, you learnt a lot about things you never knew about. For example, Unagi.

9. NEVER WATCHED/LIKED F.R.I.E.N.D.S. …!?

9

You come across a person once in a while who has never watched or liked the TV show you obsess over and in your head you go, “I pity you, unenlightened person. I pity you.” But, the only words you manage to get out are “Oh, okay” because you just cannot explain to them what they have missed out on for years!
